Yoga Teachers Lindsay Ishoy I found yoga on a dare, when I didn't know what else may help all the little aches and pains that were catching up with me in my 20s. The profound impact of my first few classes would forever change the course of my life and career. I set off to India to become a teacher and deepen my self practice, starting with Astanga. The integration of yoga with physiotherapy has been an ongoing lesson in humility. I have since moved to a more therapeutic approach to yoga that minimizes injuries, restores essential movement and calms our overburdened systems. It begins with building awareness, explores with curiosity how ease is the foundation of building strength and improves mental focus and clarity over time. Neil Pearson Neil is a physiotherapist and a yoga therapist who has focused most of his 40+years as a physio helping people with chronic pain. His sessions typically combine guidance in pain self-care techniques, therapeutic exercise, pain science education and hands-on physiotherapy. If you have chronic pain, have been struggling with keeping your body as healthy as possible and you know that some form of mindful movement is needed for lasting benefits, then book in with Neil. And if you are struggling with how much pain is okay while you exercise, Neil can provide the guidance and coaching you need. Neil joins Cumberland Physio and Yoga, while continuing to work in an interdisciplinary rehab program he co-developed for Canadian military veterans across the country who are living with complex chronic pain and mental health concerns caused by their dedicated service to our country. Effective pain care requires understanding pain, being shown the right techniques and the right approach to pain care for your unique situation, and being guided with consistency, discipline and compassionate challenges. TIA ASHLEIGH My yoga journey has taken me around the world, eventually guiding me to two of India’s foremost traditional colleges of yoga. One philosophy class in India put into words all I was missing in Western-style classes. I learned how important to understand why we are doing what we are doing in yoga class, in order to purposely direct one’s practice with awareness - starting with the physical and becoming ever more subtler. I aspire to the philosophy of presence, awareness and connection in the classes I share with the ethos that yoga is so much more than an exercise. With over 800hours of Yoga teacher trainings, I work as a Yoga therapist in one-on-one settings to support people in building a conscious relationship with their bodies, physiology, mind and spirit. My work is supported by an academic background in Western Psychology (BA, UVic 2008), and Cultural Studies (MA, Rhodes University, South Africa 2014). I am currently in the process of completing an MA in Yoga Studies from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles (2023), with the goal of teaching yoga in universities in the future.

GO TO paincareaware.com CPY Founder Lindsay's Story The theme of my childhood was exploring outside on our family acreage. A natural affinity for sport was the theme of my youth. It led quite naturally into pursuing a physiotherapy career as I entered adulthood. I worked at the University Sports Medicine Centre, gaining lots of valuable experience in the field, but my frustrations with the profession soon began to surface. I felt so limited in offering my patients the time and care they deserved. I also felt frustrated by my own body slowing down. My athletic youth began to catch up with me, and even as a PT, I didn't know how to help myself?! About that time, I found yoga on a dare. But the profound impact of my first few classes would forever change the course of my life and career. I set off to India to become a teacher and deepen my self practice. The integration of yoga with physiotherapy has been an ongoing lesson in humility since then. I feel I have reached a really rich mix that I am excited to share! From August 2026 to August 2027, my family and I are taking a sabbatical. It has been a bucket list dream of mine since forever. We are going to explore places near and far, make family connections that are deeply rooted and create time and space for mental clarity that can be hard to come by in routine life. At least these are a few of the things that I am hoping for as we set off on this unforgettable journey ahead! Bon voyage.

My family and I are taking an extended leave from work, school and Cumberland to allow for more family time connection and to create space for a hopefully deep shift in perspective. The word sabbatical comes from the root sabbath - to cease or to rest, and is commonly understood as taking a day of rest. The purpose is to break from routine habits and therefore open the mind to new possibilities. 1 day out of 7, OR 1 year out of every 7 years. And that's exactly what this upcoming year is all about! I am leaving my space in the very capable hands of Neil and Lisa Pearson. Please read on for more info... Read More Every time I repeat a pattern, I am essentially, practicing it... Yoga Classes VITAmin Y(yoga) The registered series adopt this approach: A therapeutic yoga style class where the emphasis is on learning to move well, and with ease. Starting with the basics of mindful movement, and progressing in complexity throughout the series. With consistency over time, this simple practice nourishes you, like a regular vitamin ritual - leaving you feeling good, refreshed and ready to take on whatever it is that your heart desires. My hopes for this series would include: Developing awareness as you connect mind and body. Exploring how ease is the foundation of building strength and adding challenge into the practice. A sense of relaxation throughout your system Improved mental focus and clarity over time. Experiencing the benefits of a committed practice. HATHA YOGA This Hatha Yoga class is infused with what I’ve learned from many disciplines and sports. It is not your typical pretty-looking flow, it’s hard work to build strength, mobility and mindfulness with breath. My classes will help with posture, mind-energy regulation, athletic performance, injuries and chronic pain, and of course yogic philosophy for life. I teach with a how-to-fish approach and often pause to refine the practice and make it accessible to all bodies WOMEN'S YOGA This class is for women of all levels of practice and perceived ability. We will focus on slow (which does not mean easy) and connected movements to strength, stretch and explore range of motion. My goal in class is to establish foundation and create proper alignment for people to feel for themselves the effects of the practice. We will move through asana (postures), breathing practices, concentration and visualizations, mantras and philosophy in order to strengthen the body, improve mobility, deepen self-regulation, increase energy levels, and find a sense of inner stillness.

Move to your full potential Pelvic Health I believe the transition to motherhood should be an empowering transformation. I am often saddened this is not the case for so many. I am the mother of two littles, so this area is very near and dear to me. I am inspired to support women through this period of life transitions. Whether you are preparing for birth and baby, or in the days, months and years postpartum, the physio-yoga approach can help! Develop a practice that nourishes you - body, mind and soul. Book Now First off, congratulations! And welcome to the grand adventure of motherhood. The changes we (our body, mind and spirits) go through in order to grow, carry and nurture our offspring are tremendous. We have evolved to be fit for this function, but trust me, a little support goes a long way! I specialize in treating women with pelvic health concerns including (but not limited to) to discomforts in pregnancy, preparation for birth, recovery and healing in the early weeks, and the later years postpartum ( pain, incontinence, prolapse, diastasis, return to sport...). We don't have to settle for feeling disconnected, weak, overwhelmed or exhausted. Nor should we compromise ourselves and our life. I integrate yoga into my practice for a more holistic approach than pelvic floor treatment alone. Connect (or reconnect) with your postpartum self. Grow your body awareness. Build confidence to move well in your body and do what you love. Don't let pain discourage you from carrying your baby as they grow from womb to hip to piggy backs! Develop a practice that is supportive, fulfilling and rejuvenating. I want to support you to nurture yourself as you grow into your motherhood. Move to your full potential
- Sports Rehabilitation | Cumberland Physio and Yoga | Cumberland
Move to your full potentual. Sports Rehab Calling ALL athletes! Young and Old. Beginner and Expert. Recreational and Elite. Past, Present and Future. Whether you are recovering from a specific injury, or looking to further optimize your performance, the physio yoga approach can help. Maybe that knee injury from college still plagues you, your hip flexors are perpetually tight, or you are tired of riding your bike with low back pain? YUP! P hysio yoga can help that too! Book Now The integration of yoga to my physiotherapy practice has enhanced my abilities to help athletes. I am inspired to share this with others. It is a much more holistic approach in its essence. Instead of joint by joint assessment, it is full body functional movement. Instead of therapist led finding and fixing, it taps into the amazing awareness that athletes possess to guide their own healing. Instead of just releasing this , it considers why that might be holding on so tight. Instead of chasing and treating physical ailments alone, it connects mind, body and spirit in a powerful and tangible way. I have experienced the dramatic effects of integrating yoga therapy into my practice. Thanks to mindful movement, I have felt improved body awareness, enhanced mental focus and clarity (presence and flow states), better balance (on my bike and throughout my body), more ease and efficiency of movement and rejuvenating rest and recovery! (to name a few...) If this resonates, I would love to work with you. Move to your full potential
- Persistent Pain | Cumberland Physio and Yoga | Cumberland
Move to your full potential Persistent Pain I don't subscribe to the conventional "find it, fix it" style of therapy. I don't believe anyone is broken or needs fixing. Instead, I can offer guidance and experience to work towards your health, movement and performance goals. Whether you are feeling the slow down of age, struggling with ongoing issues that never seem to resolve or frustrated from living with pain everyday, the physio yoga approach can help! Using mindful movement as the focus, I can support you in your process of recovery and nurture a broader pathway to health and wellbecoming. Book Now Your pain can change. Your brain can change. Your tissue can change. The experience of your condition can change. Humans are resilient and adaptable creatures. Change is possible. Mindful movement is the language of the brain, and the connector of body and mind. It starts with awareness because we cannot change what we aren't aware of. Through this mind body connection, we can learn how to breathe with ease and build trust in ourselves to move safely (and without compensation). We can tune in to the subtle sensations before the screams take over. We can discover how to let go of the habitual tension that holds us back and move freely through our lives. We can find balance and build confidence in ourselves again. Please don't settle with feeling stiff, achy and old. Please don't let a condition or diagnosis define you. Please don't resign to live in pain forever. There is hope, these things can change - I have seen in it myself and my patients. The integration of yoga into my physiotherapy practice has reinforced this and I am inspired to share this with you. Find support and guidance to work through longer term and more complex issues. Take the time and create the space for a healing practice in your life. Get back to doing the things that make you feel alive and human. Move to your full potential
